VERSE VERSUS VERSES

Well, not actually a battle and no prizes involved, but "verse versus verses" was our placeholder name for a spoken word and song event we're organising for Debbie and our friends at Javabean Cafe. We went with 'Voices' for the final version (as the poster below shows), but in essence what's on offer is an Open Mic for spoken and vocal performances, with an emphasis on words rather than musical ability. Javabean is a lovely but small venue, which is why we're asking people to bring home recorded backing tracks rather than bag loads of instruments and equipment. We hope this will also encourage some of our regular Read Your Word poets to explore lyrics and song as an outlet for their muse too. We'll be easing them in gently with a parody song or two, but covers, acapella performance and original compositions are all welcome, just so long as nothing more than a PA, a couple of mics and a music stand for lyrics are needed to deliver the goods. So, if you're in or around Tunbridge Wells on May 24th why not come and join in the fun? If you're not up for reading or singing you will still be made very welcome, especially if you cheer and clap with enthusiasm and laugh in all the right places. It should be easy to do all of those things, because it will be enormous fun...
